Sparrowhawk Linocut Print

The sparrowhawk is the raptor we see most often close up, the surprise attack in the garden, the centre of the drama when the alarm calls of songbirds rise amongst the trees and hedges.

I have been fortunate enough to study the finest Japanese woodblock prints first hand, to study line and composition, and using these observations I have carved this print, the Sparrowhawk.

I wished to depict poise and power in this print, the steely-eyed gaze of a predator focussed completely on its prey. Hopefully my goals have been achieved in this print.

This linocut is printed upon Handmade Himalayan Mitsumata Washi paper, 70gsm. The image area is 210mm 300mm, the paper size is 300mm x 400mm
